- Independent Bookstore Day
April 25, 2026: “One Day. Fifty States. 2,000+ Bookstores.” A celebration promoted by the American Booksellers Association of independent bookstores across the country online and in-store.
In Alaska: The officially participating stores are Beauty and the Book (Anchorage), Dreamland Books & Yarn (Seward), The Homer Bookstore (Homer), The Ivy Bookshop (Fairbanks), The Islander Bookshop (Kodiak), The Bookstore (Haines), Hearthside Books & Toys (Juneau), Rainy Retreat Books (Juneau). - National Library Week
April 19-25, 2026: “National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries and library professionals play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities.”

Includes Right to Read Day, National Library Workers Day, National Library Outreach Day, and Take Action for Libraries Day. This spotlight is increasingly important in this time of legislation against and attacks on public libraries and public schools.
Libraries of Southcentral Alaska include Palmer, Wasilla, and Anchorage, to name a few. Libraries are so much more than books! There can be items to download, rooms to use, job and career help, crafting meet-ups, computers, printing, copying, scanning, business help, lectures, genealogy resources, student assistance, voting information, training, youth programs, field trips, reading programs, study spaces, newspapers, accessibility resources — and on and on.
Support your local library! Stop by, bring a friend, get a library card, explore something new.
